About Us
Alpha Sigma Kappa - Women in Technical Studies is a professional sorority for women and nonbinary students pursuing STEM majors. ASK is a unique sisterhood as we are both a social and technical group; our goal is to empower women in STEM while striving to balance academics with social life.
Chapter History
Our chapter started with a small group of interested women in the spring of 2017. We became an officially-registered campus organization at UCSB and joined the Professional Fraternity Council during the fall quarter of 2017. The UCSB chapter of Alpha Sigma Kappa became a nationally recognized Petitioning Group on January 20th, 2018. On February 9th, 2019, we became the official Xi Chapter of Alpha Sigma Kappa - Women in Technical Studies.
National History
“Alpha Sigma Kappa - Women in Technical Studies was founded in the hopes of bringing women pursuing technical studies together in a social setting. The Alpha Chapter of Alpha Sigma Kappa - Women in Technical Studies was founded on May 1, 1989 at University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Campus. Since then, it has grown to fourteen currently active chapters.
